The day-count basis matters.

Calendar days

Count all dates on both sides of the fraction. For example, 4 unpaid dates out of a 14-day period gives 4/14.

Workdays

Count the applicable workdays consistently. For a Monday–Friday schedule, 3 unpaid workdays out of 10 gives 3/10.

Custom calendars

Review the period before the total.

Check payroll dates, the unpaid interval, gross wages, and the basis used for each employee. A draft journal should retain the supporting calculation.
